The problem we saw
Every DJ knows the drill. You finish a two-hour set, the crowd's buzzing, and someone asks: "What was that track you played around the hour mark?" You have no idea. The setlist is in your head and nowhere else.
If you record the mix, the publishing workflow is worse. Rip the audio, normalise it manually, type out a tracklist from memory, upload to Mixcloud, then repeat for YouTube with chapter markers. An hour of admin for an hour of music.
And if you run a station? Multiply all of that by every DJ on your roster, then add a website, a schedule, and listener apps to maintain.
What we built
MakingWaves started as a side project to solve our own problem: a desktop app that listens to whatever's playing and writes the tracklist automatically. Audio fingerprinting handles the identification — Serato, Rekordbox, CDJs, vinyl, hardware, it doesn't matter.
Then we added OBS overlays, so streamers could show the current track live. Then mastering, so DJs could drop in a recorded mix and get a broadcast-ready file back. Then publishing to Mixcloud, Hearthis, and YouTube — with auto-filled tracklists, descriptions, and chapter markers.
When internet radio stations started asking for hosted sites and DJ management tools, we built that too. Now MakingWaves serves solo DJs and multi-DJ stations from the same platform — shared infrastructure, shared tools, shared community.
